If you want to limit when students can take quizzes, use this preference to choose the dates and times when quizzing is allowed. You can also choose whether to allow quizzing on Saturdays and Sundays.
Who can do this with default user permissions?
District Level Administrators, School Level Administrators
District level administrators can set the Date and Time Restrictions preferences for Accelerated Reader for all schools on your site. School level administrators can set the preferences for their schools. Other staff and teachers cannot set the preferences unless they have been granted special permissions, but they can view the settings.
To set date and time restrictions, follow these steps:
- Select Accelerated Reader Independent Reading on the Home page and then choose Preferences from the menu.
- Select Dates and Times for Accelerated Reader under the School Preferences on the Preferences page.
Your schools are listed. You can set the preferences for each of your schools, or you can choose settings to apply to all of your schools:
Choosing settings for each school
- If you want to restrict students to quizzing between certain dates at a school (such as the school year or a marking period), check the first box. Then, select the calendar field.
In the calendar, select the start date first; notice that it will be filled in within the first field. Then, select the end date. (Select the arrows to the left and right of the two months shown to move back or forward in the calendar.) Once you have selected both dates, the time period between them will be highlighted on the calendar. If the dates are correct, select Apply.
If you set date restrictions, be sure to update them before the start of each school year.
- If you want to prevent quizzing on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), check the second box.
- If you want to restrict the times when students can take reading quizzes, check the third box. Then, move the circle at each end of the range to set the starting and ending times when students can take quizzes. Once you have selected each circle (see the 4 PM circle in the example below), you can also use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to go backward and forward one minute to set the time more precisely.
In the example below, students can quiz from 6:45 AM until 4:00 PM. - If you want to allow teachers to override the restrictions with the monitor password for reading quizzes, check the last box.
- Select Save Changes to save your settings. (Select < Back to go back to the Preferences page.)
Choosing the same settings for all of your schools
- Select Set All above the table.
- In the popup window, choose the settings as described above; then, select Apply to All. (You still need to save your changes.)
- Select Save Changes to save your settings. (Select < Back to go back to the Preferences page.)
